What is IPL
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy is a non‑invasive treatment used to manage certain types of dry eye, particularly those caused by meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). These glands produce the oily layer of your tears, and when they don’t work properly, the tears evaporate too quickly, leading to dryness and irritation.
IPL uses gentle pulses of light applied to the skin around the eyelids. This light helps:
Reduce inflammation
Improve oil flow from the meibomian glands
Stabilise the tear film
Provide longer‑term relief from dry, irritated eyes
It’s not a replacement for medical advice or diagnosis, but it’s one of the modern technologies many optometry practices—including Peninsula Eyecare / Izzard’s Optometrists—use to support patients with persistent dry eye symptoms.

We currently run clinics on the 1st and 3rd Saturday mornings from our Umina office.
